Vladimir Mikhailovich Koretsky (born February 6, jul. / 18th February  1890 greg. In Yekaterinoslav , yekaterinoslav governorate , Russian Empire ; †  25. July 1984 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian - Soviet jurist and 1961-1970 Judge at International Court of Justice in The Hague .

Life

Vladimir Korezki was born in Yekaterinoslav in what is now Ukraine in 1890 and studied at the Faculty of Law at Kharkov University until 1916 . From 1920 he taught political and legal history at the Kharkov Institute of Law , where he held a chair. During the Second World War , Korezki was evacuated to Tashkent , where he also worked as a lecturer. In 1944 he returned to the Kharkiv Institute, where he now taught international law . Five years later he became head of the Institute of State and Law of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences .

In addition to his scientific work, Vladimir Korezki took part in a number of international conferences as a delegate of the Soviet Union and the Ukrainian SSR, including in 1958 and 1960 at the International Conference on the Law of the Sea of the United Nations . In 1960 he was elected judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague . In this capacity he served from 1961 to 1970, including from 1967 to 1970 as Vice-President of the Court of Justice. He died in Kiev at the age of 94 and was buried in the Lukjanivska cemetery .

Awards

Vladimir Korezki, who published over 100 scientific works in his life, was accepted as a full member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1948. In addition, he received several high-ranking state awards from the Soviet Union, including the Order of Lenin , the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and the title of Hero of Socialist Labor .
