Vasyl Hryhorowytsch Ljaskoronskyj ( Ukrainian Василь Григорович Ляскоронський , Russian Василий Григорьевич Ляскоронский Vasily Grigorievich Ljaskoronski * December 24, 1859; jul. / 5. January  1860 greg. In Zolotonosha , Poltava Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 1. January 1928 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian - Soviet historian , archaeologist , numismatist , ethnographer, and writer .

Life

Wassyl Ljaskoronskyj graduated from St. Vladimir University in Kiev in 1885 , where he studied with Ivan Lutschyzkyj and Volodymyr Antonowytsch . On his advice, he studied the work of Guillaume le Vasseur de Beauplan . He was also a participant in several archaeological excavations (including with Wikentij Chwoika ) throughout Ukraine, published their results and deepened his knowledge of history at the universities of Vienna, Reykjavik and Paris. From 1891 on he worked as a teacher at the 3rd Kiev high school. In 1899 he defended his master's degree . Between 1903 and 1907 he was a private associate professor at Moscow University and then moved to Kiev University, also as a private associate professor. In 1909 he became a full professor at the Historical-Philosophical Institute in Nischyn . After the October Revolution in 1917 he worked at numerous institutions. In 1924 he became a permanent employee of the ethnographic and folk commission at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences . Between 1925 and 1927 he was a member of the All-Ukrainian Archaeological Committee . In addition, from 1926 he was an associate member of the Archaeological Department of the Art Department of the Scientific Institute for Ukrainian Language.

Lyaskoronskyj was awarded 4 decorations and a silver medal and received the rank of State Councilor for years of service. He died in Kiev in 1928 and was buried there in the Lukjanivska cemetery .

Publications

Ljaskoronskyj wrote numerous works. He summarized his research on the works of G. de Beauplan in 1901 in the monograph “Guillaume le Vasseur de Beauplan and his historical and geographical works on Southern Russia”, including his own translation of G. de Beaupplan's “Description of Ukraine” and reproductions of some of his maps , together. A bibliography of his works by Kateryna Antonovych-Melnyke and a biography of him appeared in 1929.
