The JungfrauPark (previously until the end of 2009: Mystery Park ) is a privately run amusement park in Interlaken ( Switzerland ), which is dedicated to the presentation of “inexplicable and yet real tangible” world puzzles. The initiator of the Mystery Park was Erich von Däniken . The JungfrauPark is open from the end of April to the end of October.

structure

On May 24, 2003 the park was opened under the name "Mystery Park" on the site of a former military airfield . In November 2006 the park was closed due to financial problems. It was used for bankruptcy purposes and at the end of 2007 sold to a group around the original co-initiator Oskar Schärz. In summer 2009, the park was reopened on a trial basis and from summer 2010 it was continued under the name «JungfrauPark». The name refers to a well-known mountain nearby, the Jungfrau .

The park has seven themed pavilions in which around 12 minutes of multimedia presentations are shown.

  1. Vimana - Space Shuttles of Ancient India ? About the similarity of ancient Indian cult objects with today's spacecraft and aircraft as well as references in the ancient Indian texts.
  2. Orient - pyramids without a blueprint?
  3. Maya - a people of brilliant astronomers ? About the Mayan Calendar, which ends in 2012 - what will happen?
  4. MegaStones - Stonehenge , a time machine of the high priests ?
  5. Contact - culture shock or inspiration ?
  6. Nazca - Pictograms for Gods?
  7. Challenge - Are we alone in the universe ?

In addition to the themed buildings, there are the following other attractions:

criticism

The criticism of the content and presentation of the Mystery Park corresponds on the one hand to the criticism of the person and work of its initiator von Däniken. On the other hand, planning and implementation were accompanied by criticism of the business model and the architecture.

history

The Mystery Park has suffered from financial difficulties since opening. The business plan originally envisaged half a million visitors per year, but it soon had to be reduced. An annual visitor number of 300,000 people should only be aimed for in a few years. In 2005, 201,000 people visited the park by November. On September 8, 2006 it was announced that the Mystery Park would close " for a winter break ". Restructuring measures and a takeover offer as part of the bankruptcy proceedings had failed, the bankruptcy-related closure took place on November 19.

Oskar Schärz was not only the head of business planning, the creator of the business plan, the president of the board of directors, the overall project manager, the creative director and the main shareholder, but also the person whose various companies were working on the project.

After the debt restructuring agreement was confirmed by the court on February 15, 2007 , the creditors' committee began sales negotiations with interested parties in spring 2007. In December 2007, the Mystery Park was sold to New Inspiration by Stefan Linder, Peter Stähli and Oskar Linder for around 14 million Swiss francs .

The park reopened on May 15, 2009, initially for a summer season. The 2009 season was quite successful with 90,000 visitors, but at the end of October 2009 the operators were unable to present new investors. CEO Marcel Meier, who had successfully reopened the Mystery Park, ended his engagement at the end of November 2009. His successor was Bernhard Zysset, who had already accompanied the groundbreaking in 2001.

In 2010 there was a name change. In April 2010 the park was reopened under the new name «JungfrauPark» with slight modifications.

From 2012 to 2014 the Maya Pavilion was used as a venue; there was a dance hall (house and electronic music) for up to 450 visitors.
