The Interlaken airfield ( ICAO code LSMI ) is a disused military airfield of the Swiss Air Force in Interlaken .

From 1919 onwards there was a civil airfield, which was closed during the economic crisis in 1930. The second airfield was created as a Reduit airfield in 1940 during the Second World War and opened in 1941. The Luftwaffe operated all types of aircraft up to the F-5E / F Tiger and from 1947 operated the specialist unit for aircraft of the type DH.100 Vampire .

This specialist body moved to Sion in 1976 , and Hunter and Tiger controls were subsequently carried out. Until 1963, the Meiringen plant was run as an agency of the Interlaken group. Another office is located in St. Stephan .

From 1964 to 1967 Globe Air operated charter flights from London to Interlaken in the high season .

From 1971 to 1982 and again from 2008, the Swiss Air Rescue operates a base for their rescue helicopters (Wilderswil base), which received the ICAO code LSXI .

Military use was discontinued in 2003. On May 24, 2003, Erich von Däniken opened today's Jungfrau Park under the name Mystery Park . The Greenfield Festival has also been taking place on the airfield site since 2005 .
