Locations of the 11 Swiss regional airports |
The airfield Birrfeld ( ICAO code LSZF ), officially Aargauischer regional airport Birrfeld is a regional airport in Lupfig in the Canton of Aargau in Switzerland . The airfield has existed since 1937 and is a regional aviation center; since 1985 the airfield has had a concession as an airport. The holder is the Aero Club of the Canton of Aargau (AeCA). In terms of annual flight movements , Birrfeld is the most important general aviation airport in Switzerland.
The airfield is primarily used for aviation with motor planes and gliders as well as training and further education in aviation. The AeCA's Birrfeld flying school, other flying schools and numerous flight groups are located at Birrfeld airfield. In terms of aviation, the airfield is considered to be challenging due to the limited space, restrictions due to aircraft noise and the numerous flight movements with parallel powered flight and glider flight operations on two runways. The airfield is uncontrolled, which means there is neither air traffic control nor flight controllers ; This makes Birrfeld the largest uncontrolled airfield in Switzerland. Permitted languages in aviation radio are German and English.
The AAA Alpine Air Ambulance AG has the airfield Birrfeld rescue helicopter stationed and Basler Versicherungen a hail airmen .
