Mystic Circle was a metal band from Rhineland-Palatinate .

History of the band

At the beginning the band played death metal , then fast-paced dark metal . With the release of the Drachenblut album, more emphasis was placed on background music with keyboards , on which almost all melodies were based. According to Marc “Beelzebub” Zimmer, the album should be “as bombastic as possible” and the lyrics should be “ film soundtrack- like”. This concept was continued on the following album Infernal Satanic Verses . A change in the sound was made on the CD The Great Beast , the songs became slower and the keyboard even more dominant. Zimmer's vocals tended towards death metal. After the resignation of the keyboardist “Baalsulgorr” only a few keyboard passages were used. On the album Open the Gates of Hell there was only one song left ( Wings of Death ) in which a keyboard is used. Critics accuse Mystic Circle of always using all the clichés that are popular at the time, such as Viking Metal clichés at demo times, cradle-of-filth references to Dawn - The Scream for Darkness such as the cover, concept and the female spoken passages, and a departure from the keyboard-heavy sound when a large part of the bands turned away from it. Zimmer replied that he had always listened to metal and did not have to hide behind any band, since his "already longer like [sic!] Them". He referred to the artistic freedom and the great stylistic range in Black Metal . Neither did dawn to do with Cradle of Filth, yet he could in dragon's blood parallels with Dimmu Borgir notice.

Occur

According to the band, the name stands for the orientation of all its members. The descriptions are inconsistent; on the one hand all members have the same beliefs, on the other hand they are not all satanists . Their own music is optionally referred to as "antichrist music" or "Dark Satanic Metal", on MySpace the band describes itself as the "leading German death / black metal trio". However, the band distances itself from the criminal activities of extreme representatives of the traditional black metal scene, such as the murder in which Jon Nödtveidt was involved, with the statement that murderers should not play black metal.

When Zimmer called the Legacy editor Thor Wanzek for an interview, he initially reported with his real name, "but it was important to be referred to as 'Graf von Beelzebub' in the interview". He replied in the affirmative to Wanzek's question as to whether he was "the proverbial devil". When asked what “the purely Satanic” expresses, Zimmer replied: “In the texts and in the presentation, in the pictures.” When Wanzek asked again about the satanic concept, Zimmer replied that there was none, he “actually used Satan as a the God who leads the hosts of fallen angels to fight against the angels of Christianity ”, so only figuratively. Wanzek described the portrayal of the band in advertisements and interviews that he had read before talking to Zimmer as "dull and one-sided", saying that he had "never found the spirit of Black Metal in it". Because of their advertisements, he was never able to hear the music without prejudice, and the band also helped to ensure that “the scene has become more one-sided, clichéd and uninteresting”. The band is limited to pure provocation and anti-Christianity, which happens "in an incredibly primitive and stupidly brazen way". There he sees "no distance, no spirit and no superiority". He "doesn't think that people who deal deeply with Satanism, passion and deep emotions can get excited about MYSTIC CIRCLE".

Due to their appearance (with glued-on plastic devil horns at concerts), the statements of singer Marc Zimmer and the musical changes, the band is very controversial and is not classified as Black Metal. The members of Mystic Circle are also seen by more extreme representatives of the underground as traitors who turn Black Metal into a joke. A. Schwarzkrieg from the band Isegrim characterized Mystic Circle as cheesy and implausible:

“Mystic Circle signed after us [at Last Episode ], if I had known beforehand that they were also signing, I would have changed my mind again. [...] Listen to our music, then their music. We don't need a keyboard gag in our songs, we have up to 70 more beats a minute, and the guys don't seem credible. But I don't want to go into the subject, I don't like to blaspheme other bands. "

- A. Black War :

The band is ridiculed by some metallers, described as childish or "terribly amusing" or called "Mystic Circus". According to Lionheart of the Tales of the Macabre , "every little pitchfork punk in kindergarten" would be ashamed of pseudonyms like "Graf von Beelzebub" or "Aaarrrgon", and one could only laugh at them when they were described as Monty Python- esque Black -Metal parody would see. The music also seems like a parody, it is an endless repetition of things that have been heard years before, and better,. Since the band first played death metal and later keyboard-heavy metal with female vocals, they are said to follow the current trend.

But there were also death threats against the band. René Wagner from the band Nargaroth was particularly noticeable through verbal attacks against the band and especially Marc Zimmer, which his fans also joined; Wagner accused them of being “not close to the spirit of music”. Although this view is shared by the black metal scene, critics accuse Wagner of having other, private reasons for the feud against Zimmer and some other musicians than the pretended ones.

Singer Marc Zimmer has since left the band and is now active as a bassist in the band V8 Wankers .

The rumor that Torsten der Unhold (Torsten Hirsch, Agrypnie / Ex- Nocte Obducta ) would be the band's new bass player and singer was denied in August 2008.

  11. "A band that no-one even heard about until 1996 (and I am involved in this underground since 1985, so I know what I'm talking about) and that boasts like they do better come up with something really great! […] A couple of overpainted little idiots with names like 'Aaaargon' or 'Count von Beelzebub', names every little pitchfork punk in kindergarden would be ashamed of. As long as you see them as a parody on Black Metal (sort of MONTY PYTHON like) you can at least laugh about them. The music hits the same point as it's an endless repetition of things we already heard years ago and alot better. So, in case you go for the parody effect, it's warmly recommended. Mystic Circle , a former Death Metal band, seems to go with the trends… this new CD offers nothing but pure trend (false) Black Metal with keyboards, female vocals… to me, this is neither satanic nor infernal… […] This CD enters the same league as Dimmu Borgir, etc, but is still deep in the shadows of those… I'm sure that no one of you needs this (I hope so!). “Costa Stoios: MYSTIC CIRCLE“ Infernal Satanic Verses ” .
