N , N , N ', N ' -Tetrakis (2-hydroxyethyl) adipamide is a chemical compound from the group of the hydroxylalkylamides .

Properties and use

It is a white solid. In granulated delivery form, it is usually used as a hardener in weather-resistant powder coatings based on polyester resins. It serves as a substitute for triglycidyl isocyanurate , which is rarely used in Europe due to its labeling requirements.

Powder coatings crosslinked with hydroxylalkylamides and based on polyester resins containing carboxyl groups are distinguished by good weathering stability. The hydroxylalkylamide reacts by means of its hydroxyl groups with the carboxy groups of the polyester resin via a polycondensation reaction , i.e. with cleavage products. Cleavage products of this reaction are mainly water and a small proportion of lower alcohols. The resulting network makes the resulting powder coating very resistant to aggressive ultraviolet radiation . At the same time, hydroxylalkylamide-crosslinked powder coatings show good flexibility with a comparatively satisfactory chemical resistance, similar to TGIC-crosslinked systems.
