The northern Fliedetal Bridge is an 880 m long railway bridge on the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg near Fulda . It is located southwest of the village of Kerzell and crosses the K 100, the federal road 40 and the Fulda tributary Fliede .

The southern Fliedetalbrücke , which spans the Hessian Kinzig Valley Railway and the A 66 , connects to the structure in a southerly direction . Between the two bridges there is a small elevation in the middle of the Fliedetal.

course

The route initially runs on the bridge, over seven fields, in an arc of 6000 m radius, a transition curve (over eight fields). This is followed by a straight line over the remaining five fields. The gradient initially runs over 16 horizontal pillars and then merges into a trough with a radius of 25,000 m.

The bridge is designed as a 20- span single-span girder system with a center distance of 44 m. The superstructure rests on 19 hollow pillars up to 21 m high.

An earth dump was created between the northern and southern Fliedetal Bridge.

history

planning

In 1976, variant III for the large-scale layout of the new line in the Fulda area was planned for a 1295 m long and up to 35 m high bridge over the Fliedetal. It should span the B40, B40n (now A 66) and the railway line to Hanau .

Considerations for a 25 n high dam over the Fliedetal were not pursued further. A proposed 1,600 m long bridge structure to cross the Fliedetal was discarded due to aesthetic considerations.

construction

Construction began on August 2, 1982. Between October 1982 and June 1983 the piles for the substructure were made. The pillars followed from December 1982, the superstructures from June 1983.

The planned length of the structure in 1984 was 880 m. The structure was erected with a compact telescopic tower with a telescopic reach of 44 m and a cycle of two weeks.

The construction work should (status: 1984) be completed on March 29, 1985.

The Frankfurt branch of what was then Bilfinger + Berger Bau-AG was commissioned with the construction .

The structure was in planning section 18 of the middle section of the new line.

Installation

The bridge went into operation in 1988 as part of the Fulda – Würzburg section.
