Marc Stutz-Boukouya

Marc Stutz-Boukouya (born May 28, 1961 in Bouzonville as Marc Boukouya ) is a French trombonist , conductor and composer .

Live and act

Stutz-Boukouya went to Great Britain in 1990 after studying music (classical trombone and singing). From 1991 to 2001 he lived in Berlin, where he became a fixture in the local jazz improvisation, new improvisation music and the free music scene.

His compositional work forms a special focus, the stylistic roots of which lie in both jazz and new music . The further development of the diverse possibilities of his instrument, the trombone, is in the foreground of his artistic work. In 1996 he met Steve Lacy and Misha Mengelberg .

With Pierre Zeidler (saxophone, clarinet) he founded the Duo Vingt de Tension in France in 1989, in 1993 he founded the New Pulse Quartet in Berlin , and in 1998 the J'Ozz Quartet in Paris .

Stutz-Boukouya works as a soloist in the fields of experimental music, jazz and classical music and works as a teacher and conductor. As a soloist he has worked in ensembles such as the Globe Unity Orchestra , the Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra , the Hannes Zerbe Blechband and Association Urbanetique . He also worked with Dietmar Diesner , Willem Breuker , Paul Rutherford , David Moss , Blixa Bargeld , Karl Berger , Alan Silva , Sirone , Harri Sjöström and Keith Tippett . He also worked with the composers Marc-André Dalbavie ( composition of "Interlude" II and III for solo trombone 1993), Jean-Claude Eloy and Anthony Braxton .

International music festivals, concerts and tours have taken him through large parts of Europe, Africa and Asia. He was u. a. Participant in the Warsaw Autumn Music Festival as solo trombonist with the Stellcello Ensemble by Robert Rutman (1991), at the Moers Festival (1994) with the Extended Project by Evan Parker , at the Donaueschinger Musiktage with the Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra (1994)., at the Total Music Meeting (1995) and other events.
