Kerzell is a district of Eichenzell in the Fulda district in East Hesse .

Geographical location

Kerzell is located about 2.2 km southwest of the center of the Eichenzeller core town, between the villages of Lassenrod in the north, Rothemann in the southeast, Hattenhof in the south-southeast and Tiefengruben in the southwest. It is located south of the confluence of the Döllbach , which is tangent to the village to the west, into the Fliede .

history

Kerzell as a place name was first named in 1165 on the occasion of a donation from Abbot Markwards I to the new Fulda hospital as the Chelneres cell (= waiter's cell ) . In addition to the Fulda monastery , a Konrad von Kerzell was wealthy in 1303 .

The newer deserted area "Weimesmühle" is located on the southwest boundary towards Tiefengruben . This place on the Fliede is listed for the first time as "Weidemannesbruggun" in a border description by the Archbishop of Mainz , Erkanbald on June 14, 1011. Since 1396 we have met “Weydemans” later “Weimes” (mill). Due to the construction of the high-speed line from Hanover to Würzburg , the miller's family left their mill in 1983, and in 1988 it burned. Today only a small part is still inhabited.

Reorganization

On April 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Kerzell was incorporated into the municipality of Eichenzell.

Attractions

The village square and its Madonna figure , the St. Sebastian Church, the old bakery and the bridge over the Döllbach are particularly worth seeing in this place.

The Church of St. Sebastian

The Catholic St. Sebastian Church from 1913.

The church of St. Sebastian Kerzell is one of the cultural monuments of Kerzell. It was partially destroyed in a bomb attack on the railway line running through Kerzell during World War II, and was later rebuilt and restored. Your two bronze bells from the Otto bell foundry from 1925 had been confiscated and melted down during the war. After the war, the church received a new OTTO bell with the tones a and e in 1951 and 1959.

The Fátima Chapel in Kerzell.

Kerzell also has a small chapel , the Fátima Chapel . This pilgrimage chapel , which was built between 1945 and 1947 in honor of St. Mary of Fatima, is located on the edge of the forest southeast of Kerzell . It consists of simple sandstone blocks, has two window axes with pointed arch windows, a retracted apse and a roof turret with a pointed helmet . In the interior there is a pointed choir arch and a wooden beam ceiling. The natural-colored wood-carved Madonna comes from Franz Rüther from Münster . The bell of the chapel, like the bells of the parish church of St. Sebastian, comes from the Otto bell foundry in Bremen-Hemelingen . It was cast in 1949.

The church has two cemeteries: the old cemetery is not far from the church, the new cemetery is at the foot of the Steinberg district between Kerzell and Lassenrod.

societies

The sports club SG Helvetia Kerzell 1920 eV is the club with the largest number of members in Kerzell. The SGK plays in the Fulda group league. In addition to the soccer department, there is also a carnival department . The Kerzell carnival department is known far beyond the community, as its male dance guard , the Pötschedäbber , have been among the top 5 at German championships several times.

There is also a fair society in Kerzell , which upholds the old tradition of the fair . Year after year, mostly young people meet at the beginning of November in order to be able to dance the traditional three-row dance around the previously set up fair tree and thus commemorate the consecration day of the Kerzell Church of St. Sebastian.
