Ebersburg lies at an altitude of 300 to 689 meters in the Rhön between Fulda and Gersfeld .

Neighboring communities

Ebersburg borders in the north on the municipality of Künzell , in the east on the municipality Poppenhausen and the city of Gersfeld (all three in the district of Fulda), in the south on the Markt Wildflecken and the municipality of Motten (both in the district of Bad Kissingen in Bavaria ), and in the west to the communities of Kalbach and Eichenzell (both in the district of Fulda).

Ebersberg

Ebersberg is a scattered settlement and the largest district in terms of area of ​​the municipality of Ebersburg. It consists of several hamlets and mainly individual farms north of the Lütter. At its eastern end is the Ebersberg with the Ebersburg, which is enclosed on three sides by the Gackenhof district (municipality of Poppenhausen / Wasserkuppe).

In Ried there is a historically valuable fortified church , one of the best preserved fortifications in the entire district. Schmalnau

Schmalnau is a large Rhöndorf on the Fulda River with a baroque church, which has a valuable baroque altarpiece by Johann Andreas Herrlein and a late Gothic font . Above the cemetery at the foot of the Horstberg there is a replica of the Lourdes grotto from 1993.

Thalau

The Thalau district was formed voluntarily in 1969 from the formerly independent communities of Altenhof, Stellberg and Thalau. It is a state-approved resort and is 360-520 meters above sea level. IVV hiking weeks are held here regularly . Thalau offers ten circular hiking trails (IVV approval) with different lengths between 7 and 20 km.

Weyhers

Weyhers is a village in the Vorderrhön and is 362 meters high at the foot of the Ebersburg. When it belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria and later to the Gersfeld district (dissolved in 1932), it was of greater importance as a place of jurisdiction with its own prison for the surrounding area.

Church building

The municipality of Ebersburg was formed on December 31, 1971 as part of the regional reform in Hesse from the former municipalities of Ebersberg , Ried, Schmalnau , Thalau (Altenhof, Frauenholz, Stellberg and Thalau) and Weyhers. On August 1, 1972, Corridor 1 from Gichenbach (Untergichenbach) was added. The municipal administration is based in the district of Schmalnau. The new municipality got its name after the Ebersburg , the ruins of which are enthroned at 689 meters above the Ebersberg .

Outsourcing

On August 1, 1972, Ebersburg ceded the old Ebersberg hamlets and farms of Leimbachshof, Leimbachsmühle, Huhnrain, Hettenpaulshof, Unterdanialshof, Oberdanielshof, Wiegerich and Bienhof to the neighboring community of Poppenhausen.
