Gichenbach is a district of Gersfeld (Rhön) in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

Geographical location

Gichenbach is located in the Rhön around 5.7 km west-southwest of the center of the Gersfeld core town. It is located in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve and in the Hessian Rhön Nature Park at the confluence of the Gichenbach in the Schmalnau , which up until then was also called the Rommerser Wasser, which flows through the village . At about 420 to 480  m above sea level. Located NN , it borders on the Gersfeld districts of Hettenhausen in the north-west, Altenfeld in the north, Rommers in the east-south-east and Dalherda in the south-south-west and Schmalnau (seat of the municipality of Ebersburg ) in the west-north-west.

Territorial reform

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent municipality Gichenbach was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse on a voluntary basis in the city Gersfeld incorporated . For the district of Gichenbach, as for the other incorporated, formerly independent municipalities, a local district with a local advisory board and local head was set up in accordance with the Hessian municipal code.
