The course of the Döllbach from the Rhön on the way to the Fulda (right at the end of the map)

The Döllbach , also known as the moat in the upper reaches and Döllau in the middle , is an approximately 23.5 km long, south-eastern and orographically right tributary of the Fliede in the districts of Bad Kissingen in Bavaria and Fulda in East Hesse .

course

The Döllbach rises as a moat in the Hohe Rhön . Its source lies within the Rhön biosphere reserve in the area of the Wildflecken military training area on the southwestern edge of the Haderwald nature reserve (NSG no. 318486), which was founded in 1997 and is around 17.83 km² in size. It is located on the Bavarian-Hessian border about 4 km east-northeast of the village of Motten , the main town of the municipality of the same name, between the Dalherdakuppe (also called Dalherdaer Kuppe ; 800.6  m ) in the north and the Dreifeldskuppe ( 832  m ) in the southeast 710  m above sea level NHN .

Slightly below its origin, the moat flows about 300 m in length in the Hessische Rhön Nature Park through Hessian territory, then in the northern part of the Bavarian district of Bad Kissingen in the Milseburger Kuppenrhön between the Hohen Kammer ( 700  m ) in the north and the Ehrenberg (approx.  674  m ; location of the pilgrimage church Maria Ehrenberg ) in the south, now called Döllau , flowing westward into the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park . There it flows through the underneath of the Brückenauer Kuppenrhön belonging Great Dome ( Mottener hood ; 658.1  m ) points of village moths, in which he the road 27 passes under and after the running water turns north.

Below Motten, the Döllau forms the natural border between the Bavarian district of Bad Kissingen (with the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park) in the east and the Hessian district of Fulda (with the Hessian Rhön Nature Park) in the west, where the Schmidtwasser flows from the west towards Uttrichshausen . Shortly afterwards, along the B 27, he passes the Hessian village of Altenhof , which is part of the Thalau district of Ebersburg . From now on it forms the natural border between the Rhön in the northeast and the Hessian ridge in the southwest.

After this the brook finally reaches Hesse, where it is called Döllbach . Running along the B 27 in a north-westerly direction, it flows into the municipality of Eichenzell , where it is bridged by the approximately 600 m long Döllbachtal bridge of the federal motorway 7 . Then, after the Zillbach flows into it, it flows through the village of Döllbach , after which the Thalaubach flows into it. Continuing along the B 27 with the BAB 7 above it, it reaches the village of Rothemann, which belongs to Eichenzell . There the brook leaves the Hessische Rhön Nature Park and the B 27 and passes the Neuhof village of Hattenhof , after which it first crosses the Fulda – Hanau railway line ( Kinzig Valley Railway ) and then the Bundesstraße 40 .

Ultimately, the Döllbach flows through the Eichenzell village of Kerzell , to the north of it, after crossing under the K 100 and coming from the south on its last creek meters, after overcoming an altitude difference of around 446 m to about 264  m in the last meters from the west there zoom flowing Fulda influx lilac (near lilac bach kilometer  3.8) to open . The Kerzeller hamlet of Steinberg is opposite its mouth to the north .

Catchment area and tributaries

The tributaries of the Döllbach, whose catchment area covers 75.082 km², include with orographic allocation (l = left-hand side, r = right-hand side) , length of the river, mouth with Döllbach kilometers and - if known - catchment area size (viewed downstream) /:

Surname

In Rothemann the brook is also called "beautiful Fulda". The name comes from a blurring of scanum Fulda (short Fulda), as described in old maps and in contrast to the "long Fulda", which flows through the neighboring valley.
