A customs post at Ronshausen has been documented since 1359, where road tolls for Ulfestraße were raised until 1834. Ronshausen belongs to the Landgraves of Hesse as early as 1386. The place belonged to the office of Rotenburg .

In the Thirty Years 'War from 1618 to 1648 and in the Seven Years' War from 1756 to 1763 the place was devastated several times, but as early as 1780 Ronshausen was mentioned as a large village with 468 inhabitants.

Until the middle of the 19th century the community was dominated by agriculture. That changed only with the construction of the railway (line Bebra to Eisenach). Tourism has played a role since the middle of the 20th century. Until 2014 the place was a recognized climatic health resort .

Culture and sights

Church in Ronshausen

Buildings

  • The approximately 800-year-old church is essentially a Romanesque sacred building. The choir tower is dated to the beginning of the 13th century and has Romanesque style elements with its arched sound openings. The church was consecrated to Saint Catherine before the Reformation. The Romanesque nave was rebuilt in 1715. The interior was equipped with a three-sided gallery and the ceiling was provided with a board barrel. It was decorated in 1719 by Joh. Kaufuld with rich rural baroque paintings . In 1716 a new organ by Johann Eberhard Dauphin was installed, which is still there today as a monument organ. The tower was given its current dome in 1804. The chancel with groin vault, apse and south window date from 1900.
