Nösnerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nösnerland (also Nösnergau ) is a historical region in northern Transylvania bordering the Reener Ländchen . It is the northernmost branch of the Königsboden , between the rivers Bistritz and Marosch . The main town of the area was the city of Bistritz . Until 1944 the Nösnerland was mostly inhabited by Transylvanian Saxons , who, however, were evacuated with the withdrawal of the German Wehrmacht and fled to Austria and West Germany. Today the Nösnerland is part of the Bistrița-Năsăud district and has a predominantly Romanian population.
