Lechința ( German  Lechnitz , Hungarian Szászlekence , Transylvanian-Saxon Lachenz ) is a Romanian municipality in the Bistrița-Năsăud district in Transylvania .

The market town, 20 kilometers southwest of the district capital Bistrița ( Bistritz ), was the largest rural community in the former Nösnergau . First mentioned in writing in a papal deed from 1333 under the name Lekenche .

The name is derived from "Lech" (= dry ) and "nitz" (= Bach ).
