The NASCAR Speedway Division was established in 1952 by the founder and president of NASCAR, Bill France Sr. launched. Were used seater racing car with stock block engines . The aim was to reduce the popularity of other single-posto events and to arouse interest in NASCAR among fans of this type of automobile sport. The first NASCAR Speedway Division race was held at Darlington Raceway in 1952 and was won by Buck Baker , who contested the race behind the wheel of a Cadillac . In the same year, six more races followed, one of them at Martinsville Speedway , which was won by Tex Keene, who drove a Mercury . The winner of the first NASCAR Speedway Division race of all time, Buck Baker, was also the first champion in the history of the racing series and he was to remain the only one, because after the 1952 season the series was already discontinued.
