The ISCARS DASH Touring Series is an American racing series of the American Speed Association , which was operated by NASCAR until 2003 .

history

The series unofficially started in 1973 in North Wilkesboro , North Carolina . A crowd of racing drivers started racing on a street circuit. This track belonged to the former team owner Bill Ellis from the Grand National Series . When Ellis decided to discontinue the series after a few races, the drivers founded the Baby Grand National Racing Association, Inc. ( BGNRA ). In addition to the name, the cars are also based on the Grand National in terms of paintwork . Charlie Triplett was named president. Originally the series was carried out with 4-cylinder compact sedans. The BGNRA's motto was “The Poor Man's Way to Race” (German: The Poor Man's Possibility of Racing). The BGNRA founder turned to NASCAR to have the series officially approved there, he succeeded in 1975 when the series officially started as a sanction by NASCAR. The series grew steadily, mainly because of the cheap production costs of the cars and engines. It was not uncommon for 40 drivers to take part in a race.

In 1980, the five-time champion Dean Combs was the first NASCAR driver with the Datsun 200 SX to regularly finish a season with a non-American brand. In the early 1980s, NASCAR changed the balance of power significantly by introducing the GM Iron Duke engine . The cost of an aggregate increased from $ 800 to $ 22,000 . The significantly higher procurement costs meant that only ten to twelve teams could take part in a race. After the 6-cylinder engines became obsolete in the Busch Series , NASCAR in 1998 allowed 6-cylinder engines in addition to the previous 4-cylinder engines. Most of the crews opted for the 6-cylinder drive. In October 2003 the series was sold to Brdaytona .

ISCARS is currently owned by Randy Claypoole. In 2007 the regulations stipulated 5.1 liter V8 engines. Again, this was done for one reason to reduce costs. On February 8, 2008, there was a death during the Speedweeks in Daytona . Security guard Roy Weaver was run over by Ray Paprota. Weaver was cleaning the track from the rubble of a racing accident. For the rest of the speed weeks, all flags were raised to half-mast .
