The Nudelman-Suranow NS-23 ( Russian Нудельман-Суранов НС-23 ) was a Soviet automatic cannon , which was developed by Alexander E. Nudelman and Alexander S. Suranow with other designers for the air force .
history
The NS-23 replaced the Wolkow-Jarzew WJa-23 automatic cannon as an on-board weapon in Soviet aircraft during World War II and was operational from 1944. The ammunition of the weapon is a further development of the 14.5 × 114 mm anti-tank cartridge . The NS-23S variant was synchronized (S) so that the aircraft could shoot through the propeller. The following aircraft were equipped with this automatic cannon : Antonov An-2 , Ilyushin Il-10 , Il-22 , Lavochkin La-9 , La-15 , Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-9 , Jakowlew Jak-9UT , Jak-15 , Jak-17 , and Jak-23 . Furthermore, some early models of the MiG-15 also had the NS-23 as an on-board weapon. Around 1949 the NS-23 was replaced by the successor model NR-23.
