The NSU Prinz 1000 TT , the NSU TT and the NSU TTS were sporty car models from NSU Motorenwerke AG and were built in different versions from 1965 to 1972. They were based on the mass model NSU Prinz 1000 .

In 1965 the Prinz 1000 was joined by the Prinz 1000 TT. It had the 1085 cm³ engine of the NSU type 110 with 55 hp (40 kW) and reached a top speed of 148 km / h.

Gert Hack remarked in auto motor und sport : "Right from the start you drive quickly and quickly with the TT through curves, whereby the handiness and lightness with which you can control the car are amazed."

An original NSU Prinz 1000 TT can be recognized by the double headlights at the front, the black stripe with the inscription "NSU Prinz 1000" in between, the rear vent windows and the chrome-plated letters "TT" attached to the rear. There are also two holes for the oil cooler drilled in the rear of the engine compartment on the intake duct. Due to the only moderate ventilation of the engine compartment, the engine tends to overheat, which is why the engine hood is also raised while driving. Broken oil pipes often caused fires. The car was also sensitive to crosswinds.

In two years, 14,292 NSU Prinz 1000 TT with 1.1-liter engine were built.

In 1967 the Prinz 1000 TT was further developed into the "TT" (also called "1200 TT"). From 1177 cm³ the engine now drew 65 HP (48 kW), the weight increased by 5 kg and the top speed to 153 km / h. Vehicle tuners offered engines with up to 1300 cm³ and 130 PS (96 kW), and there were even vehicles with mechanical fuel injection. The designation “Prinz” was dropped from 1967 for the four-cylinder models.

Instead of the wide black stripe between the main headlights, a chrome-plated stripe with a black insert was attached.

By the time production was discontinued in July 1972, 49,327 NSU TTs with 1.2-liter engines had been built.

The TTS was introduced in February 1967 especially for racing and rallying. (In the first few months the vehicles were still called “Prinz 1000 TTS”). These vehicles were designed as sports sedans, which anticipated the later concept of the VW Golf GTI with a low power-to-weight ratio . So the TTS got from 996 cm³ displacement with two Solex double flat-flow carburetors and a compression ratio of 10.5: 1 as standard 70 HP (51 kW) at 6150 / min, tuned also over 85 HP (62 kW). At the time, this corresponded to the engine power of vehicles in the upper middle and upper class, but the TTS weighed only 700 kg. The front and rear wheels were set for negative camber .

Because of their maneuverability, the TTS were successful in hill climbs and slalom competitions long after production ceased .

The TTS can be recognized by its lettering in the chrome strips with black inlay between the main headlights and by the chrome letters on the rear. An additional oil cooler is attached to the front of the car. There are three holes for the oil cooler on the intake duct in the engine compartment.

By July 1971, a total of 2402 cars of this type were produced in "production campaigns" carried out roughly every 3 months.
