The NWA International Tag Team Championship was a tag team title approved by the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) for All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) or its predecessor Japan Wrestling Association (JWA) and Western States Sports . As usual in wrestling, the award of this title follows a previously worked out storyline . The title existed from 1959 to 1988. Then it was combined with the PWF World Tag Team Championship to form the AJPW World Tag Team Championship . Due to the age of the title, there are no reliable records and conflicting information about the history of the title from 1959 to 1963. The same applies to the exact dates from 1962 to 1966.
The Fabulous Kangaroos were considered the first champions, the last held by Jumbo Tsuruta and Yoshiaki Yatsu , who also became the first AJPW World Tag Team Champions by defeating the Road Warriors .
