Post production

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The post-production or post-production ( English postproduction ) includes all steps of the post in the film , television and music production , as well as in the photograph .

Post production in film

The post-production of a film includes, above all, the digital post-processing of the images in the computer, the editing as well as the dubbing and underlaying of the images with audio content . The work processes in post production (English: "post production workflow") differ considerably in some cases; depending on which material was shot, how large the proportion of computer-generated effects and images is (“ visual effects ” and “ computer-generated imagery ”) and which end product is to be produced.

Post production in photography

Post-production also takes place in the field of photography. After the image material has been digitized, retouching , color corrections , image optimization, etc. are carried out in post-production . Post production is part of any professional job. The most extensive corrections are carried out in the field of advertising, beauty and cosmetic photography. All pixels are edited here: hair, eyes, mouth and skin are partially completely redesigned.

Post production in music

When recording music , mixing and mastering are the final stages of music production in post-production. Mixing deals with the processing of selected audio tracks and their balanced combination to form a unit, the sum signal ( English stem ). It is used particularly in the pop and rock music on the use of sound effects and other design measures in order to achieve a-conceived from the music audience as attractive sound image. The conclusion of the post-production is finally the mastering , before the master (tape) is created as the basis for the production of the sound carriers .

Post production in 3D visualizations

Post-production is increasingly taking place in the field of professional 3D visualizations and animation, especially in architectural rendering. After the rendering process using 3D programs such as Autodesk , high-resolution visualizations are exported to image processing programs. Here, too, color corrections, retouching and other image optimizations can be carried out in post-production, which significantly improve the quality of the end product. Widely used programs are image processing programs from the industry leader Adobe . Post-production in 3D visualizations and animation in architecture should be present in every professional work today. Here, for example, real information about the surroundings is related to modeled buildings in order to best represent the nature and function of planned buildings with the computer-generated images and thus support the sales process.
