Nada Ruždjak

Nada Ruždjak , also Nada Ruždjak-Siriščević , (born November 26, 1934 in Zagreb , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † October 27, 2012 in Zagreb, Croatia , Croatia) was a Croatian- Yugoslav opera singer with a soprano voice .

Life

Nada Ruždjak was born in Zagreb. Her mother came from the Varaždin area ; her father was Slovenian . She began her career after a successful audition and audition in 1963 at the Croatian National Theater (Hrvatsko narodno kazalište Ivana pl. Zajca u Rijeci) in Rijeka , where she made her debut as Marica in the operetta Splitski akvarel by Ivo Tijardović . From 1963 to 1965 she was engaged as an actress and singer at the Comedy Theater in Zagreb.

However, she then continued to study singing with teachers Lav Urbanić, Zlatko Sir and finally with the hero-baritone Vladimir Ruždjak (1922–1987), whom she later married as a second marriage. In 1965 she was engaged as a permanent member of the Croatian National Opera in Zagreb (Hrvatsko narodno kazalište u Zagrebu), where she performed for almost forty years. There she made her debut in 1965 as Gilda in the opera Rigoletto . Until 1980 she was engaged there as “first female coloratura soprano”. Later she continued to sing at the National Opera in Zagreb. After 1980 she also appeared frequently at the theater in Maribor .

On stage she mainly appeared under the name Nada Siriščević. Ruždjak's career lasted a very long time. She gave recitals and sang recitals well into old age, for example in 2006 at the Novalja Music Summer on the island of Pag . It was not until she was 74 that she finally said goodbye to the stage.

Ruždjak sang mainly the subject of lyrical and dramatic coloratura soprano on stage . Her stage roles included Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail , the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute , Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro , Serpina in La serva padrona , Lady Harriet in Martha , the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor , Gilda, Oscar in Un ballo in maschera , Mimì and Musetta in La Bohème , Micaëla in Carmen and Adele in Die Fledermaus . Her special highlight was the role of the courtesan Violetta Valéry in Verdi's opera La traviata . She sang this role for over 20 years on numerous international stages, including in Berlin under the musical direction of Lorin Maazel .

She has appeared at the National Opera Belgrade (Narodno Pozorište u Beogradu), at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow , at the Deutsche Oper Berlin , at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, as well as in Spain and Portugal .

Nada Ruždjak received the Milka Ternina Prize in 1972 for her artistic merits ; In 2008 she was awarded the Croatian Theater Prize for her life's work.

Ruždjak was married twice. Her son Dražen comes from her first marriage to an engineer from Zagrab. Her son Marko Ruždjak (* 1966 in Zagreb) from her second marriage to Vladimir Ruždjak, with whom she was married for a total of fifteen years, became known as a composer.
