Nagar ( Urdu نگر) is a city in the Gilgit District in Gilgit-Baltistan , the former northern areas of Pakistan . This city is located in the Hispar Valley at 2,688 meters above sea level and was the capital of the former mountain kingdom of Nagar .

Nagar is located on the southern slope of the Hispar valley shortly before its confluence with the Hunza valley at an altitude of around 2500 meters. Across from the confluence on the other side of the Hunza Valley, about 10 kilometers (as the crow flies) is Karimabad , the former capital of the Hunza Empire. The Karakoram Highway , which runs through the Hunza Valley, connects the region with the Pakistani capital Rawalpindi and with Kashgar in China.
