Naharlagun is a city in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh . It is located at the foot of the Himalayas at about 200 meters above sea level.

The distance to Itanagar , the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, is only 10 kilometers on the National Highway 415 in a westerly direction from Naharlagun. North Lakhimpur in the state of Assam is 42 kilometers northeast of the city. Not far south of Naharlagun is the Brahmaputra , whose tributaries also arise in the mountainous region around the city. There are long monsoons every year , the climate is subtropical with hot, humid summers and mild winters.

population

Within 10 years the population rose from 26,912 people in 2001 to 36,158 people in 2011. The gender distribution is unequal with 53% men compared to 47% women, 15% of the population is under 6 years old. The literacy rate is 69%, almost 10 percentage points higher than the Indian average. The literacy rate of men is 74% higher than that of women. With them it is only 62%.

traffic

The Naharlagun Station was the first station in Arunachal Pradesh and is in operation. Pawan Hans has a helicopter service to Dibrugarh and Guwahati airports . The road is also the most important means of transport. Guwahati , the largest city in northeast India, is 340 kilometers away by car in less than 8 hours .
