The bay is limited to the west by Cape Maobitou and to the east by Cape Eluanbi . The beach is popular because of its white sand. It is 600 m long and extends on the east side of the bay. The bay itself is also bounded by small rocks or islets: Xikuai Jiao (細 塊 礁) and Dalaogu (大老 鼓) in the west, as well as Shiniuzi (石 牛仔), Chuanfan Shi () and Dafou Sha () in the east. At the northern end of the bay is the Maanshan nuclear power plant . There is also the anchorage Dabanlie Maodi (Taihanretsu) and the fishing port of Houbihu Yugang (後壁 湖 漁港).

history

Under Japanese rule , the bay was used as a landing point for whaling. Today there are still the fishing villages of Dingtanzi (頂 潭 仔), Houbihu (後壁 湖), Shizitou (獅 仔 頭), Nanwan (南 灣), Tiaoshi (跳 石) and Tanziwan (潭 仔 灣).
