Nana Yuriko

Nana Yuriko (born July 24, 1973 in Munich ; † November 20, 2014 ) was a German - Japanese director , screenwriter , camerawoman and film producer .

Life

Yuriko was born in Munich in 1973. She spent her youth in Malaysia , Thailand and Japan . In 1994 she moved to Germany and settled in Berlin. Initially she worked as a graphic designer for several music labels . She has been working as a filmmaker since 1999 and has produced various documentaries, short films and music videos for television stations such as Arte, ARD and MTV. As a camerawoman, she was involved in the making of Ralf Schmerberg's documentary Problema .

At the Sónar 2000 in Barcelona , she and represent! Berlin organized a show on Berlin club culture.

Together with Britta Mischer , she founded the non-profit organization Global Eyes eV in 2009 , which introduced film and media workshops to young people in countries such as Haiti, Brazil and South Africa. The online platform Global Eyes TV later emerged from the association.

Yuriko as well as Britta Mischer, Peppa Meissner and Alexander Schmalz founded the production company 25films in 2011 , with which they produced the documentary Bar25 - days outside of time about the Berlin Bar 25 . Yuriko and Mischer also directed the film. The crowdfunded film was released in theaters in May 2012.

Yuriko died in November 2014 at the age of 41. She left her husband and two children.
