Ferdinando "Nando" Gazzolo (born October 16, 1928 in Savona , † November 16, 2015 in Nepi ) was an Italian actor and voice actor .

Life

Gazzolo grew up as the son of the actor Lauro and the radio announcer Aida Ottaviani Piccolo in Milan, where he made his stage debut in the ensemble of Antonio Gandusio in 1948. He quickly established himself as a teenage lover at the side of Tatiana Pavlova . His appropriate and sensitive portrayal in William Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra in the staging of Renzo Ricci and Eva Magni led to a first great success in 1951. Another station was the Teatro d'Arte Italiano, where Gazzolo performed alongside Luigi Squarzina and Vittorio Gassman in various plays appeared, including in 1954 as Horatio in a Hamlet production as well as in numerous other classics such as Mord im Dom or Processo di famiglia by Diego Fabbri .

In the late 1950s, Gazzolo left the stage for some time and worked extensively as a voice actor . He lent his energetic and masculine voice to numerous stars of American studios, such as Marlon Brando , Anthony Franciosa , David Niven , Yul Brynner and Henry Fonda , but also to Europeans such as Jean-Paul Belmondo . He soon returned to the theater, but in addition to extensive but selected works for television - including a six-part Sherlock Holmes series - and many engagements as a spokesperson for documentary films, he was able to experience a manageable career in cinema that was limited to around ten genre films . Over the years, some CDs with poems and prose read by Gazzolo were released, as well as three singles between 1969 and 1971 on which he sang the A-side.

From his marriage to Rita Di Leonardo, who died before him, Gazzolo had a son who was also acting.
