The arctic open-air museum Nanoq ( Inuit for polar bear ) is located in Jakobstad , Finland . It is a museum with exhibitions on the polar region with a focus on Greenland .

The museum has an exhibition on various expeditions, e. B. a replica of the gas balloon gondola of the tragic  expedition  Salomon August Andrées , material about the expedition Constantine Phipps, 2nd Baron Mulgrave to Spitzbergen , started in 1773 , but also documents about the polar explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen . Other exhibits include hunting and fishing equipment from the 17th century to the present day, as well as Inuit works of art, especially soapstone sculptures and paintings.

In the outdoor area there are 18 buildings typical of the polar region . Among other things, a turf house, a hunting lodge from Spitzbergen, a gold rush camp from Lapland , a smoke sauna , a commanders bunker, a church and various sheds and shelters.
