Naphtali Zwi Juda Berlin
Naphtali Zwi Juda Berlin ( Hebrew נפתלי צבי יהודה ברלין, Acronym הַנְּצִי"ב, transliterated NeZIV ; * November 20, 1816 in Mir, Belarus ; † August 10, 1893 in Warsaw ) was a Russian rabbi , Halachist and Talmud and Torah commentator .
From 1854 until its closure in 1892, Berlin was the Rosh Yeshiva, the yeshiva of Waloschyn , Possek and an important champion of the Chovevei Zion movement , which immediately preceded political Zionism .
His sons were the rabbis Chaim Berlin and Meir Bar-Ilan (who later became the Misrachi leader).
Honor
In his honor, a kibbutz ʿEin ha-NeZIV ( Hebrew: Hebrew ) was founded four kilometers south of Beith She'an in 1946 עֵין הַנְּצִי"ב; translated as: source of NeZIV ) called.
