Nathanael Dilger

Nathanael Dilger (born September 5, 1604 in Danzig ; † March 31, 1679 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Nathanael Dilger was a son of the Danzig preacher Daniel Dilger . From 1619 he studied at the University of Königsberg and - after a study trip through Denmark, Holland, England and France - at the University of Strasbourg .

In 1630 he became court chaplain to Count Johann Jacob von Rappoltstein in Rappoltsweiler (Alsace). His piety, based on Johann Arndt , stayed alive at the Rappoltsteiner Hof and influenced the young Philipp Jakob Spener .

In 1637 Dilger returned to Danzig and helped his father. In 1638 he was his successor as a preacher at the Marienkirche in Danzig . In 1672 he was appointed first pastor and senior minister .

In Danzig he came out mainly with pamphlets in the spirit of Lutheran orthodoxy , u. a. against the " syncretists ".
