National Salvation Front

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Salvation Front or National Salvation Front ( Arabic جبهة الإنقاذ الوطني, DMG ǧabhat al-inqāḏ al-waṭanī ) is an alliance of Egyptian political parties that was founded to oppose the constitutional declaration of November 22, 2012 by President Mohammed Morsi. The National Salvation Front includes more than 35 political groups from all over Egypt. The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Mohammed el-Baradei is their coordinator.

During the protests in early December 2012 , the front made three demands on Morsi: to repeal his constitutional declaration of November, to cancel the referendum on the new constitution scheduled for the end of December and to form a new constituent assembly . Mursi did not respond to any of these demands. Initially, the front planned to run for the 2013 parliamentary election with a joint list . At the end of February, however, she announced that she would boycott the polls planned for April. She justified this with the fact that she does not see free and fair elections guaranteed. The alliance also turned down Morsi's offer of dialogue because, from their point of view, it had already created a fait accompli.

Associated parties

The front consists of a wide range of liberal, left and secular groups, including the following parties and unions:

Key characters

Key figures on the front are Mohammed el-Baradei , Hamdin Sabahi , Amr Mussa and Hussein Abdul Ghani. Sameh Aschur, another leading figure, is the spokesman for the front. Chaled Dawud, one of the spokespersons for the organization, is also a member of the pioneer party that has split off from the Muslim Brotherhood .

Abdel Moneim Abul Futuh , head of the Strong Egypt party , criticized the salvation front and said that he will never join organizations with Feloul ("remnants" of the old Mubarak government).
