content
The focus of the museum is the Ardennes offensive from an American, German and civilian point of view. Over 3000 m² of exhibition space and numerous life-size dioramas provide an insight into the dramatic and tragic situation in which soldiers and civilians found themselves at that time. Exhibition rooms show extensive collections of weapons, uniforms and military equipment, wheeled and tracked vehicles, numerous personal items, photos, documents and maps. The centerpiece of the museum is the detailed, modeled diorama of the Sauerübergang near Diekirch on January 18, 1945 by troops of the 5th US Infantry Division .
A second part of the museum is devoted to the history of the development of the Luxembourg army , from the founding of the Grand Duchy to the present day. Dioramas deal with aspects and time periods of the Luxembourg post-war army. Other departments are dedicated to those Luxembourgers who in the First and Second World War and during the Korean War, fought in the Allied armies. Luxembourg UN missions are also covered.
The National Museum of Military History is located in the building complex of the “Old Brewery” in Diekirch.
