National League B (II)

The National League A is the top division of the Swiss Team Championship in Chess (SMM). This consists of 10 teams; The game is played on 8 boards .

Organizational form

The 10 participating teams play a simple round-robin tournament ; the final placement is determined by the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a winning game, half a point for a draw game, no point for a losing game). The last two are relegated to National League B and are replaced by the two winners of the groups East and West of National League B. A club can be represented by a maximum of one team in National League A. In principle, the team line-ups must be based on the leadership list valid on January 1st, but a player may only be placed two boards higher or lower. A team may use a maximum of one foreigner per competition; foreigners who meet one of the following conditions do not fall under this restriction:

  • You are domiciled in Switzerland and have a residence permit of at least 9 months.
  • Between 1994 and 1998 you played at least 20 games in the SMM.
  • You have a place of residence that is a maximum of 20 kilometers from the Swiss border.

The time to consider is 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 50 minutes for 20 moves and 15 minutes until the end of the game; From the first move on, each player also receives a time credit of 30 seconds per move until the end of the game. Since the 2015 season, draw offers are only permitted from move 30.

Current

In the 2016 season the following teams play in the National League A:

SC Bodan , Echallens Chess Club , Club d'Echecs de Genève , Schachklub Luzern , SG Riehen , SK Solothurn , Schachgesellschaft Winterthur , SV Wollishofen , Schachklub Réti Zürich , Schachgesellschaft Zürich .

particularities

In addition to the SMM, the Swiss Chess Federation (SSB) organizes the Swiss Group Championship (SGM), another team championship, the highest division of which is the 1st Bundesliga . This is justified by the fact that the SSB was created in 1995 from the merger of the Swiss Workers' Chess Federation (which previously organized the SGM) and the Swiss Chess Federation (which had previously carried out the SMM) and both competitions were retained.
