The Tirgua National Park (Spanish Parque Nacional Tirgua ) is a national park in Venezuela .

location

It is located about 220 kilometers (as the crow flies) west-southwest of the capital Caracas and extends from the districts of San Carlos and Anzoátegui in the state of Cojedes to the district of Nirgua in the state of Yaracuy .

description

The national park covers 91,000 hectares and was designated in 1992, making it one of the youngest in Venezuela. The status also serves to protect the spring water areas, especially that of the Tirgua River, which gave the national park its name. In gewässerkundlicher regard is the area of increased importance.

Flora and fauna

In the Tirgua National Park there are mainly types of vegetation from deciduous and mixed forests and savannas . Species from the plant families of the Clusiaceae , the mimosa family , the myrtle family , the linden family and the palm family are found in woody plants .

The national park is a habitat for animal species such as the howler monkey , the capuchin monkey or the northern tiger or ocelot cat .

Others

The headwaters of the Tirgua River are located in the national park. Various water sports such as canoeing , rafting and rowing can be practiced on this river, which has rapids in its course .
