The National Highway 6 is (NH 6) one of eight national highways in Cambodia and part of the Asian Highway 11 (AH 11) , which lies in the center and north of the country. Part of the road forms an east-west route north of Tonle Sap Lake and leads from Phnom Penh to Sisophon. The main destination on the way is Siem Reap, where Angkor Wat is located. With a length of 515 kilometers, the trunk road is the longest in the country.

Street description

The NH 6 begins in Phnom Penh at the same point where National Road 5 begins and runs along the south side of Tonle Sap Lake. The road crosses a narrow strip of land that separates the Tonle Sap River from the Mekong . The road runs on the west bank of the Mekong through flat areas that are regularly flooded. In the village of Skun, the NH 6 runs north and National Road 7 continues east towards Laos . The NH 6 is well developed and leads through flat agricultural areas with rice fields. Halfway through is the city of Kampong Thom, which has a few thousand inhabitants. Ultimately, Siem Reap is the main tourist destination in Cambodia. The ruins and temples of Angkor can be found there. The national trunk road then continues for about 110 kilometers and ends in Sisophon on national trunk road 5, which continues to the border with Thailand .

history

The NH 6 is an important road, not only because of its connection between the capital Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, but mainly because of the tourism around Siem Reap, both of the Tonle Sap Lake and the temples and ruins of Angkor. The road has been upgraded in recent years, especially in 2016, many activities were carried out to widen and re-asphalt the road.
