Kampong Thom ( Khmer កំពង់ធំ , transcription: Kâmpóng Thum , IPA : [ kɑmpoŋ tʰum ]) is a province of Cambodia with the provincial capital of the same name . The province is east of Tonle Sap Lake and roughly in the middle of the country.

history

The Sambor Prei Kuk ruins are located in the Kampong Thom province . This goes back to the historic city of Isanapura , which was the capital of the Kingdom of Chenla in the 7th and 8th centuries .

economy

In 2008, Kuwait pledged a total of 486 million US dollars to finance a dam on the Stueng Saen River in the north of Kampong Thom province, as well as irrigation systems for newly developed rice-growing areas. The development project aims to export the harvested rice to Kuwait.
