Takeo ( Khmer : តាកែវ ) is a province in Cambodia . The provincial capital is called Doun Kaev .
Attractions
- Temple:
- Phnom Da - The 17 meter high Phnom Da temple dates back to the 8th century. It is located on the summit of a solitary 100 meter high mountain east of the provincial capital Takeo. At the foot of the mountain stands the Asram Maha Russei from the 7th century.
- Phnom Chisor - The temple ruins on this mountain north of Takeo date from the 10th and 11th centuries.
- Ta Prohm - In addition to the famous Ta Prohm temple in Siem Reap, there is another Ta Prohm of the same name in Takeo Province. It was also built under Jayavarman VII (1181-1219).
- Tonle Bati - near Ta Prohm is the Tonle Bati lake . The name Tonle (in Khmer river) refers to its original shape of a river.
- Angkor Borei - On the way from the city of Takeo to the temple Phnom Da you can make a detour to this historical place. It used to be an important trading center. At the harbor there is a small museum about the first great empire of the Khmer Baphuon (1st - 6th century), which is better known under its name Funan , which was handed down by the Chinese .
- Silk weaving - Takeo Province is also home to around 10,000 of the 15,000 Cambodian women weavers. Most of the silk weaving villages are close to the national road towards Takeo town.
