Sodium is an Italian technical and brutal death metal band from Cagliari that was founded in 2001.

history

The band was founded in 2001 by Andrea (electric guitar) and Edoardo De Muro (drums). In 2003 a demo was recorded under the name Demo Till Hell and the first appearances were held. In 2004 the second demo, The Day of Pain Demo… Part 1, followed. In 2005, the debut album The Day of Pain followed , which was distributed in Italy, Canada , the USA , Brazil , Japan , Korea , Germany , England , the Netherlands and Norway , among others . A total of about 800 copies settled. For personal reasons the bassist and singer Aaron Tolu and the guitarist Roberto Cotza left the line-up. In 2008 guitarist Alessio Locci, singer Lorenzo Orrù and bassist Lucio Manca joined them. After an EP under the name Inscribed in the Victims Scars in the same year, various appearances and a tour of Great Britain followed . After further line-up changes, the recordings for the album Elegy for the Flesh began in October 2010 in the 16th Cellar Studio in Rome with producer Stefano Morabito . These eight songs were then mixed and mastered by Morabito. In 2011 Alessandro Farci joined as the new bass player. The album was released in 2011 on The Spew Records , a sub-label of Punishment 18 Records . The publication followed various appearances and participations in the Tattoo Death Fest , the Malta Death Fest and a small tour through Great Britain together with Trifixion and Regurgitate Life . In the meantime, the group was writing new material before recording eight new songs in 2016 that made up the album Vertigo of Abjection . The songs had been mixed and mastered by Marco Mastrobuono in the Kick Recording Studio . After the band signed a record deal with the Czech label Ultimate Massacre Records , the album was released in 2017.

style

Horstio from killingmusic.de wrote in his review of Elegy for the Flesh that the album seemed even more brutal and modern to him in the past. The aggressive vocals are characteristic , whereby the music sounds like a bow to progressive death metal releases like The Erosion of Sanity by Gorguts or Fornever Laid to Rest by Seance . Characteristic are also "[f] strangely lead guitars [and] nested rhythmic puzzles". Bradley Zorgdrager from exclaim.ca said in his review of Vertigo of Abjection that the band plays a mixture of technical and brutal death metal. The band play aggressively and technically precise, whereby the music can be classified between suffocation and cryptopsy . The drums sound a bit delayed . In the later course of the album there would also be similarities to Beneath the Massacres Nevermore .
