Life

She studied Japanese literature at the Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto .

Sumeragi first published in 1990 when her short story Hebihime Goten appeared in a special edition of the manga magazine Asuka . More short comics and a few series for this magazine followed. The publishing house Kadokawa Shoten brought out several anthologies in the following years, including Hana no Koe and Richō Angyōki . In these stories she devoted herself to Chinese and Korean history, placing less emphasis on tension and more about the “cultural atmosphere of China” .

In her only two-volume work, Peking Reijin Sho , published from 1995 to 1997, she tells of young people in the midst of the unrest of the 1920s in China. The Beijing Opera serves as the setting .

Sumeragi has also been devoting itself to current issues since the 2000s. With Kuroneko no Sankaku she realized a novel by Hiroshi Mori in 2002 . In 2005, she and Nobuhiko Tenkawa published the shōnen manga Archaic Chain in the magazine Comic Blade Masamune .

The series Yume Genji Tsurugi no Saimon has been created for Jin magazine since 2006 with the well-known scenario artist Kazuo Koike .

Sumeragi is valued for her style of drawing, which works almost entirely without screen foils and emphasizes shadows and areas through hatching. In addition to drawing comics, she also contributes illustrations for novels and designs characters for video games. In 2005, Asuka Shinsha published an art book from her pen.
