The Tianjin Natural History Museum ( Chinese 天津 自然博物館 / 天津 自然博物馆 , Pinyin Tiānjīn Zìrán Bówùguăn ) is located in the Hexi District of Tianjin City . The museum was established as the first natural history museum in the People's Republic of China and is now one of the largest and most important of its kind in the world. After moving to the old building of the Tianjin Museum , it was designed as an adventure museum in 2014 and divided into 4 large areas.
history
The foundation was laid by the French Jesuit Emile Licent (1876–1952), who undertook numerous research trips to north and north-west China during his 25-year stay in China . He conducted scientific field studies in areas such as geography, geology, climatology, botany, zoology and demography. With his research results he opened the Musee Hoangho Paiho (literally: Museum of the Yellow and White Rivers), which was later called the Northern Museum .
In 1957, the museum was transformed into the Tianjin City Natural History Museum, and in 1974 the Tianjin Natural History Museum.
