Funding was raised through grants from the Alfeld and Gronau districts as well as from collections. “The construction was supported by Baron Freiherr Burghard von Cramm with gravel from Oberg and his teams. The farmers from Brüggen and Rheden had taken over the transport of the rest of the building material, which rolled in from Hanover by train to Brüggen , to the edge of the forest. The Alfelder Zeitung and the Gronauer Leine-Deister-Zeitung also solicited notable donations from the hiking clubs in the province through word and writing. The teaching staff of the district also participated with collections. The tower building initiative received the support of all sections of the population, especially the members of the Brüggen Heritage Protection Association ” .

The foundation stone was laid and construction of the tower began on Ascension Day, May 13th 1926 and its inauguration on August 15th of the same year. The total cost was 16,500 marks.

From 1957 to 1970, various groups tried to get around the tower, and occasionally it was served on Ascension Day. In 1974 the tower was classified as a monument . In 1975 the municipalities of Brüggen, Rheden, Wallenstedt and Heinum had the tower renovated for 10,000 DM. In the course of the next few years (up to 1986) the tower visibly deteriorated.

Another renovation by the municipalities of Brüggen, Rheden and the city of Gronau took place in 1990 and cost 20,000 DM. On February 16, 1991 the Förderverein Hohe Tafel e. V. founded.
