geography
Geographical location
The place Rheden is about 3 kilometers southeast of Gronau (Leine) , just a little east of the Leine and northwest of the Seven Mountains .
history
Although the development of the settlement (possibly under the name hretha ) probably dates back to the 9th century AD, it was first mentioned in a document in 1022. The parish of Rheden was already important in the 11th century. At the same time, there was a manor in Rheden since the 15th century. The castle was built in 1729.
1974 to 2016
From 1974 to 2016, in addition to the village of Rheden, the villages of Wallenstedt and Heinum also belonged to the municipality of Rheden . Wallenstedt was first mentioned in 1022, and Heinum was first mentioned in 1255. Both places were incorporated into the municipality of Rheden on March 1, 1974 on the occasion of the regional reform.
The municipality of Rheden was a member municipality of the integrated municipality of Gronau (Leine) . It covered an area of 15.14 square kilometers and had about 1035 inhabitants when it dissolved.
One of the most important landscape protection areas in Lower Saxony, which is considered a fauna and flora habitat, was part of the municipality. There was a glider airfield near Wallenstedt.
As of 2016
The municipality of Rheden and the joint municipality of Gronau were dissolved on November 1, 2016. The districts of Rheden, Wallenstedt and Heinum were incorporated into the city of Gronau (Leine) as three districts . This is a member municipality of the Leinebergland joint municipality .
politics

coat of arms
The municipality was awarded the coat of arms on May 29, 1939 by the President of the Province of Hanover . The district administrator from Alfeld presented it on July 20 of the same year.
Blazon : "In the green shield a righting itself goldzüngiger , winged , silver dragon . With a sophisticated and easy-ringed tail" | |
Foundation of the coat of arms: The old village church in Rheden shows in its rich symbolism u. a. also a dragon. Popular vernacular and local legend see in him the guardian of the most sacred goods of folkish existence, folk style and customs. He is simply the treasurer. From this point of view, the coat of arms chosen by the municipality of Rheden receives a truly deep and valuable meaning. |
