Location of Dötzum in Lower Saxony

Dötzum is a district of the city of Gronau (Leine) in the Hildesheim district of Lower Saxony .

geography

Dötzum is located about 2 kilometers east of the old town of Gronau on the Dötzumer Bach .

history

The place, documented in 1295, was the ancestral seat of an aristocratic family of the same name, which died out with Johann von Dötzum in 1582 (tombstone at the Feldberg Chapel in Banteln ). The estate was inherited by von Bennigsen in Banteln, who owned it until the 20th century.

Since the end of the Middle Ages, the state ruled with the Hildesheim bishops . Dötzum belonged to the Lower Börde of the Winzenburg district and was placed under the administration of the Gronau district in 1690 .

The previously independent community was incorporated into the city of Gronau on March 1, 1974.

coat of arms

The design of the coat of arms of Dötzum comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Gustav Völker , who designed all coats of arms in the Hanover region . The coat of arms was awarded to the community on February 11, 1938 by the President of the Province of Hanover . The district administrator from Alfeld presented it on April 22nd of the same year.

Justification of the coat of arms: In the Middle Ages, the noble family de Dotsem (or von Dötzum ) were wealthy in the village . In many ancient documents from the 13th and 14th centuries, we are confronted by their family members who express their witness or surety by means of a seal. On a document dated June 22, 1343 from the Marienrode monastery near Hildesheim , a nobleman Eylardus de dotsen appeared as a witness by using his seal and thus carrying the image into the future. The seal has thus been used as the basis for the coat of arms chosen by the community.
