flora

The "Breiter Berg" nature reserve is largely forested, with various forest communities occurring there. In addition, there are grasslands such as golden oat meadows , ryegrass-fatty willows , small-scale globeflowers - wet meadows, as well as smaller wet fallow and sedge meadows, as well as various tall herbaceous and ruderal meadows , especially at the edge areas .

Beech forest with deadwood island

Different beech forest communities formed due to different nutrient and water conditions . The woodruff beech forest, named after the woodruff , is the most common forest community. In addition to the woodruff, there are common herbs there , such as forest violets , tooth root and golden nettle . You can also find forest ziest , witch's herb and silver leaf . There are also orchids and some other protected plant species such as the Turkish lily and the common columbine .

Barley-beech forest can only be found in smaller areas, especially on the Kleiner Ganskuppe. In addition to the forest barley that is often found there, forest ringelkraut and arum are also frequently found there. The acidic hornbeam beech forest, which is an extremely species-poor forest community, is only found in small areas .

In other areas there is oak-hornbeam forest . In addition to the beech, hornbeam , pedunculate oak and winter linden can be found there to the same extent . This forest community occurs near streams and on soaked, slightly sloping slopes. A mixed ash forest can also be found on the adjoining fresh to moist slope areas. Mainly sycamore maple and ash grow there . These smaller stands are embedded in beech forest communities and the herb layer contains celandine , Ruprecht's herb and wild garlic as the most important species.

There are few occurrences of block debris forest as summer linden-mountain elm-block debris forest mainly on steep basalt block slopes exposed to the north and east.

Another rarely occurring forest community along moist stream valleys is the black alder-ash alluvial forest, in which mainly black alder , bird cherry and ash dominate the tree population. Furthermore, small-scale spruce and coniferous forests as well as deciduous and coniferous mixed forest communities can be found in the nature reserve together with larger-scale hardwood afforestations.
