The middle and lower reaches of the Mattmecke and the Linnepe valley east of Oedenthal Castle is an 8- hectare nature reserve (NSG) directly north and east of Oedenthal Castle in the urban area of Lüdenscheid in the Märkischer Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The area was designated as a NSG in 1994. Landstrasse 532 is directly south of the NSG.
Area description
The nature reserve is the near-natural middle and lower reaches of the Mattmecke north of Schloss Oedenthal and the lower reaches of the Oedenthaler Bach east of the castle and their floodplains . The area on the Mattmecke is predominantly wooded and characterized by mixed forest with a large number of species. There is a larger pond in the nature reserve right by the castle . In the valley area by the Oedenthaler Bach there are partly fallow wet and humid grassland areas where u. a. a Schlankseggenried is formed.
