The nature reserve Oberlauf der Inde in the Münsterwald lies in the area of the city of Aachen , on the Belgian border, west of Rott .

description

The nature reserve is on the Belgian border, here is the upper reaches of the Inde , the Prälatensief and upper and middle reaches of the Fobisbach with some tributaries and headwaters. The soils are often characterized by waterlogging with a very low nutrient content, so a moor sedge - alder break could develop. The northern part of the Fobisbach biotope is a valley basin with partly damp, partly dry oxbow lakes , partly with gravel banks. Alders , birches and a rich herbaceous vegetation consisting of sedges and peat moss grow in the valley gully . In the southern Indetal there is an oak and birch forest, which becomes looser at the Prälatensief. Here come pines added. A tributary flowing from the southwest flows through a moor with little tree population. Further down the stream is a large Moorseggen-Erlenbruch with an alder-birch forest. Later there is a six to seven meter high steep slope on the western side, after which the valley basin widens again and a quarry forest spreads out with a damp oak-birch forest.

Protection purpose

The near-natural brooks of the Inde and their catchment area are to be preserved, with rare groups of alder trees with moor sedge and damp oak-birch forest, pipe grass meadows and the spring moor. The latter is of great importance in terms of flora and fauna. Decisive for the preservation are also scientific and cultural reasons because of the rarity and the special character of this part of the landscape.
