The Naute Dam is a dam around 50 kilometers southwest of Keetmanshoop in southern Namibia . It is the third largest dam in the country in terms of storage volume .

The dam is about 450 meters long, 37 meters high and dams the Lion River , a right tributary of the Fish River , to a scenic reservoir with a storage volume of 83.5 million . The Naute reservoir is also the center of the national Naute recreation area , a popular local recreation area in the ǁKaras region .

economy

There are large agricultural areas around the reservoir. This includes the largest date palm cultivation in Namibia , initiated by the Arab company Al Dahra . In addition, about 200 hectares include table grapes planted, some of the brandy - distiller of Naute crystal (see also Viticulture in Namibia ) are used.
