Ndumba Makeche (born March 4, 1992 in Lusaka ) is an Australian - Zambian football player .

Career

Makeche grew up in the Zambian capital Lusaka with his father. He only played football there with friends on a disorganized basis. Shortly before his 15th birthday, he and his brother came to the Western Australian capital Perth to see their mother, who had been living there for two years. The reason for the move was the better educational opportunities in Australia. In Perth he joined the Stirling Lions , with whose youth team he was left behind in the 2007 and 2008 Youth Cup finals . In 2008 he won the championship in the U-18 youth league without losing the season, and Makeche came second in the league's youth player of the year 2008 election. The following year he was also used sporadically for the first team in the Western Australia Premier League . From 2010 the striker was a permanent member of the adult division of the Lions, but played in the 2010 season mostly in the reserve team, whose top scorer he was. When winning the State League Cup 2010 by a 2-1 win against Floreat Athena Makeche was substituted on for the winning goal scorer Ludovic Boi shortly before the end of the game .

Dissatisfied with his playing times with the Lions, the attacker switched to league rivals Inglewood United for the 2011 season . At Inglewood Makeche established himself in the starting line-up and, together with Rory Grant, formed one of the most dangerous storm duos in the league. He ended the season with eleven goals this season. At the end of the season, he accepted an offer from the professional club Perth Glory to play for their youth team in the National Youth League . In the following months, Makeche stood out with eight goals scored as a top performer of the youth team and was therefore appointed by head coach Ian Ferguson for the game on March 18, 2012 at Gold Coast United in the professional squad. In the 3-0 defeat, he made his A-League debut by substitution in the 79th minute . In the subsequent play-offs, which Glory finished as runner-up, he did not make it into the matchday squad.

In May 2012 he, like his youth team colleague Brandon O'Neill , received a two-year contract as a professional with Perth Glory. In addition to his footballing career, he first studied economics and marketing at Murdoch University , but later switched to studying sports science . Makeche received Australian citizenship in August 2012, since Zambia has not yet allowed dual citizenship, he probably lost it when he accepted Australian citizenship.
