Necati Er (born February 24, 1997 in Samsun ) is a Turkish athlete who specializes in the triple jump . In 2019 he became the U23 European champion with a Turkish national record .

Athletic career

Necati He comes from the north of Turkey. In 2013 he first appeared in the national junior championships, where he won the silver medal in the triple jump. At the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht 2013 he took seventh place with 14.02 m. In 2015 he became the Turkish junior long jump champion and was also able to qualify for the U20 European Championships in Eskilstuna. With 15.34 m he failed in the qualification and took 14th place. A year later he also failed in qualifying at the U20 World Championships .

In 2017 he finished ninth at the U23 European Championships , which, like the previous year, the World Championships took place in Bydgoszcz, Poland. In 2018 he competed at the European Championships in Berlin. In the qualification he jumped 16.26 m, with which he finished 18th. In 2018 he was also the first Turkish indoor champion among adults. In spring 2019 he finished 14th at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow. In July he celebrated his greatest sporting success to date by winning the U23 European Championships in Gävle. With 17.37 m he also set a new Turkish national record. In October he made it to the finals at the highlight of the season, the World Championships in Doha. There he took eleventh place with 16.34 m.

The Turkish record of 17.37 m was held by the Turkish-Ukrainian athlete Şeref Osmanoğlu with 16.85 m, who set this distance in 2016. Osmanoğlu's best of 17.72 m does not count as a Turkish record, as he was still starting for Ukraine at the time.
